  • Clinipure Auramine Rhodamine Fluorescent Stain is available in 500ml and 1 litre bottles.

  • Mixture of Auramine "O" and Rhodamine B is an aqueous Phenol base with 60% Glycerol as an antioxidant, Sodium Chloride is used to inhibit fluorescence. The recipe used is that of the School of Microbiology Melbourne University, which is a modification of Gilkerson and Kanner J.Bacteriol.,86:890.1963.

  • The solution and method is suitable for use on both smears and paraffin sections. Used for the rapid screening of smears etc. for Acid Fast Bacilli (AFB's) with positive organisms exhibiting fluorescence (Colour will depend upon filters and exciter used) usually yellow against a greenish background. Any positives detected must be confirmed by the traditional ZN method before a positive result may be issued: but in the busy TB Laboratory the method is invaluable to eliminate the negatives which form the bulk of all work.

  • Staff avoid perparing the solution because of the potential carcinogenicity and risk of inhaling the Auramine "O" dye powder and the corrosive nature of Phenol. Cleaning up of glassware etc. after formulation also presents a certain degree of difficulty.

  • Product has a relatively short shelf life of one to two years and for which we assign 1 year. Because of this the product is only formulated upon demand to ensure the longest possible shelf life for the client and maximum reliability.

  • QA performance is assessed on a known M.Tuberculosis paraffin section of lung.
